Kane County Sheriff: Meet the Team

RON HAIN

Ron Hain has 22 years of public safety experience and has been in the Kane County Sheriff's Office since 2003. He currently serves as sergeant as well as the Kane County SWAT Assistant Team Leader. Hain has created several innovative programs to deter criminals in Kane.

Hain is the national director of the Black Asphalt Law Enforcement System, author of "In Roads: A Working Solution to America's War On Drugs" and works with the Kane County Drug Court on rehabilitative programs. He trains nationwide law enforcement on criminal apprehension and is nationally recognized as an expert in interstate criminal activity.

He is a two-time Deputy of the Year Award winner as well as a two-time Kane County Officer of the year nominee. Hain won the 2014 National Relentless Award for major criminal arrests and has seized the following contraband to date: over 4,000 lbs of cannabis, over 100 kilograms of cocaine and heroin, over 7 lbs pounds of methamphetamine, more than 30 vehicles containing aftermarket hidden compartments used to transport contraband, and over $3,000,000 in illicit US currency.

WILLIE MAYES, SR.

Mayes began his career in law enforcement in 1986 by first being a youth supervisor. In 1992, he joined the Kane County Sheriff's Office as a correctional officer. In 1994, he was promoted to deputy, and then in 2003 promoted to deputy sergeant.

In 2014, Mayes became Deputy Lieutenant of Planning & Training. He is affiliated with the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #14, the International Association of Bomb Technicians and Investigators, the Illinois Division of International Association for Identification and the National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives.

​

In 2007, Mayes won the Kane County Sheriff's Office Medal of Course and in 2014 was awarded the Fredrick Douglas Leading By Example Award, given by African American Men of Unity. Mayes has sat on the Aurora African American Heritage Advisory Board since 2015.
